On the occasion of T.A.P Project 2022, fuse* will present Artificial botany .unfolded, a site-specific version of Artificial Botany designed for the spaces of the National Taichung Theater in Taiwan.
The unique architecture notable for its cavernous, curved, and folded interior forms, forced them to approach the project in a completely new way, not only in terms of size but as an experience. The result is a meditative piece in which they invite the visitors to get lost in and focus on the morphological transitions between one form and another, in contrast with the long-term dynamics of actual natural evolution.
Artificial Botany is an ongoing project which explores the latent expressive capacity of botanical illustrations through the use of machine learning algorithms. Before the invention of photography, botanical illustration was the only way to visually record the many species of plants. These images were used by physicists, pharmacists, and botanical scientists for identification, analysis, and classification.
The installation will be on view until January 2, 2023.

In occasione del T.A.P Project 2022, il collettivo fuse* presenterà Artificial botany .unfolded, una versione site-specific di Artificial Botany pensata per gli spazi del National Taichung Theater di Taiwan. L’architettura del teatro, unica nel suo genere, caratterizzata da forme interne cavernose, curve e piegate, li ha costretti ad affrontare il progetto in modo completamente nuovo, non solo in termini di dimensioni ma anche come esperienza. Il risultato è un’opera meditativa in cui invitiamo i visitatori a perdersi e a concentrarsi sulle transizioni morfologiche tra una forma e l’altra, in contrasto con le dinamiche a lungo termine dell’evoluzione naturale.
Artificial Botany è un progetto in corso che esplora la capacità espressiva latente delle illustrazioni botaniche attraverso l’uso di algoritmi di apprendimento automatico. Prima dell’invenzione della fotografia, l’illustrazione botanica era l’unico modo per registrare visivamente le numerose specie di piante. Queste immagini venivano utilizzate da fisici, farmacisti e scienziati botanici per l’identificazione, l’analisi e la classificazione.
L’installazione sarà visibile fino al 2 gennaio 2023.
