The art studio fuse* will be featured at the eighth edition of the Smart Life Festival, in Modena, with a site-specific version of the installation “Artificial Botany“. The festival is focused on digital culture and aims to reflect on digital innovation and evolution, through talks, workshops, events and performances. The topic chosen for this year’s edition is “Generazioni” and seeks out to question the concept of generativity and its influence in various aspects of contemporary society, such as education, information, culture, sport, economy and environment.
fuse*‘s work fits perfectly with these topics, as it uses GANs – Generative Adversarial Network – as deep learning model to train neural networks that allow the exploration of botanic illustrations, from the Orto Botanico of Padua’s archive, through algorithms, like never before.
The installation is visitable from Thursday, September 28 until Sunday, October 1, in Sala dei Cardinali at Fondazione Collegio San Marco. On October 1st at. 16.00 p.m. there will be a talk beetween Mattia Caretti, director and co-founder of fuse*, and the professor Leonardo Caffo, then the artists will be present at the installation for the public’s visit.

Lo studio artistico fuse* parteciperà all’ottava edizione dello Smart Life Festival di Modena con una versione site-speific dell’installazione “Artificial Botany”. Il festival della cultura digitale mira a riflettere sull’innovazione ed evoluzione digitale, attraverso talk, workshop, eventi e performance. Il tema scelto per questa edizione è “Generazioni”, e vuole esplorare il concetto di generatività e il suo ruolo in varie sfere nella società contemporanea come educazione, informazione, cultura, sport, economia e ambiente.
L’opera presentata da fuse* rientra perfettamente entro queste tematiche in quanto si basa sulla tecnica delle GAN, ovvero delle reti generative avversarie, che costituiscono il metodo su cui addestrare delle reti neurali che permettono di esplorare in modo inedito le illustrazioni botaniche dell’archivio dell’Orto Botanico di Padova attraverso gli algoritmi.
L’apertura al pubblico è prevista da giovedì 28 settembre fino a domenica 1 ottobre, nella Sala dei Cardinali della Fondazione Collegio San Carlo. Domenica 1 ottobre alle ore 16.00 è prevista una talk fra Mattia Caretti, direttore e co-fondatore di fuse*, e il professor Leonardo Caffo, e successivamente sarà possibile visitare l’installazione in presenza degli artisti.
